Miss Marion Ruth's Chicken and Dumplings

Boil 1 chicken (or equivalent) in water, adding salt and pepper to taste. When done remove chicken from broth and remove bones. Return chicken to broth. Add 2 sticks butter or oleo. (I usually wait and add the chicken after the dumplings are done)

Dumplings:
3 cups flour
4 heaping Tbsp. shortening
2 tsp. salt
Ice water

Cut shortening into flour and salt and add ice water until dough holds together. Mix with hands. Roll out thin on floured board. Cut in strips and drop into chicken broth. Cook until tender. (If you have Gregg over for dinner, you had better double the recipe.)
